Passive job seeking candidates are described as individuals who are not actively searching for a particular job or jobs, but instead are found by the recruiter. Not the same thing can be said for an “active job seeker” on the other hand. Active job seeking individuals actively seeks job opportunities and sends their resumes and CV’s out to fill an open position with a firm.
Why is finding a passive job candidate feasible?
It’s becoming more and more common amongst companies to employ candidates that they’ve searched and found online or via recommendation. These passive candidates usually have a standing reputation that promotes them without them having to effectively search for the job.
Passive job seeking candidates are in essence always advertising their skills even though they aren’t directly looking for a job. They are usually in a current job whilst potential recruiters are still able to find their LinkedIn profile or other means of portfolio advertisement.
It can also be noted that passive seekers are ones who have a current and proven track record of their skills and experiences. They’re also regarded as individuals who are loyal, successful, stable and mature in their field. They can also be considered as a good asset and long – term investment to the business because in many cases they will suit the profile exactly
Needless to say, it can be concluded that passive job candidates are in higher demand than active job candidates. Potential employers are also worried that if a candidate was out of work for too long that they may have lost essential skills. Some may not be as familiar to the business or industry as they would’ve been if they weren’t unemployed
However, apart from having perks, there are still cons when it comes to taking on the business world with a passive seeking approach. These include but are not limited to the following:
• It can be difficult to get the candidates to leave their current job
• It may be expensive to get them onboard and you may have to increase your offer
• They may not be happy with the work culture and environment
• They may demand more benefits and better equipment

Many recruiters also make use of social media and job alerts. Some career websites also allow recruiters to find candidates by sending them some possible, suitable fits for the job posting.
In the same way candidates can also make use of job portals and online social media as a way to advertise themselves even whilst they’re currently employed elsewhere. Employers and recruiters also use job benefits and perks as a way to draw out the potential employee they wish to see filling the vacant position within their firm.
One can conclude that it can come as a heavy price when hiring passive job seeking candidates. However, many companies may have found it to be worth every effort and an investment that is worth it in the long run.
